Two years LTS is probably not unreasonable -- we haven't formalized that as of yet, and won't have to until CI4 is much closer to ready.

Agreed, no plans to backport CI4 functionality. Some stuff can move from CI3 to CI4 without too much trouble, but going the other way would be problematic.
