New project needs your suggestion

I am planning to create a social matchmaking site. Users can enter profile information and upload multiple photos. Other users can search profiles using multiple search criteria.

Is there any similar project or tutorial which can help me start this project? What is your suggestion?

My first question would be before you embark on this project how will it differ from any of the current offerings out there?

I assume you will suggest to use open source projects like elgg or dolphin. But I need to keep it simple and customize it in near future according to my needs.

The difference is I will keep it simple. No extra features needed. I should be able to access and change source code as my need.

Sorry for the misunderstanding - I meant as an actual site why would yours be any different to any of the other many match making websites out there at the moment.
