"example.com" ruining localhost WAMP development

Please note that this has nothing to do with deployment, so far as I can find. This simply is killing my WAMP development, because I cannot default "example.com" to "localhost". Can someone tell me how to fix this on my development machine? Example.com is restricted to documentation (this is what it tells me) and in no way functions as a localhost replacement. (CI is the only framework to do this, ever, and I cannot find anything to edit that will fix it.)

My environment is XAMPP 1.7.0 (Apache 2.2.11, PHP 5.2.4), on Windows XP SP3.

Are you saying you can't edit the config file on you development machine???

Nevermind, I just found it. Somehow Window's search function MISSED that, as I had only opened config.php once to scan through last night. (And the tutorial videos didn't take me through, and I hadn't done much exploring.)

I can't follow you maybe you should point out which video you are commenting on. Because now it seems you are saying there is no base_url option in the config.php file. Maybe the config.php in the video is not the config.php file that ships with CI, which has a base_url option.
