Some questions about CodeIgniter (not CI4)

I enjoy CI3, and recently did a project using Laravel 5 to get some education.

Like any large project that has a significant legacy base, the project is a mix of a variety of coding standards. The push since I recommended and installed CI on the system has been the MVC. We're anchored to a significant amount of legacy code which contains a custom robust authentication process that straddles multiple domains, so we're dealing with a fair amount of non-mvc code as well.

I totally agree with @cartalot, CodeIgniter trending at number 5 on GitHub because it's highly used by the CodeIgniter developer community.
