Oh, okay.
What wasn't covered in the 57 other existing forum threads that have the word 'Smarty' in their topic title? (I'm assuming you read them first.)
There's also a few dozen pages in the wiki that talk about Smarty - but surely you had a read through there first, too - so if you can just be a bit clearer on what kind of things you need to know that haven't already been asked and answered... ?

Short reply: Never.
Longer reply: Never ever ever, smarty is too bloated, use a smarter (hihi) template parser, hell, even CI's parser with a few tricks is better.
