file upload accepted mime types - El Forum - 09-13-2011

I am attempting to upload a file and there does not seem to be a corresponding mime type. When viewed in explorer, it is referred to as an X12 file, and indeed the extension of these files is X12.
Fundamentally however, it is a text file.
I have attempted to allow txt mime types and can not upload the file, I also added x12 to the mimes.php file and allowed types and I still can not upload the file.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
