Announcing the first ever preview of the CI project "Area51", a video sharing software solution for the CodeIgniter framework.
Done:
So far we've managed to mockup the majority of the pages to get a feel of the site, plus we're working on the UserGrouping we will use as user levels. We're running a seperate user database from the site so that you can use the same user info for multiple sites in your social network, one login - one user database - multiple sites.
Todo:
Unfortunately, there's still alot to do on the backend. The encoders are working on a cron call linking to the database, and they encode in both low and high bandwidth formats, but at the moment there is no link between them and CI.
Although the /watch/ pages do show you various different trailers, its still only using static links direct to the flash from the existing site.
Although we are a long way off giving out a working version to anyone, we just wanted everyone to see what we were upto and poss give us any comments on style, placements etc.. as any developer will tell you, a fresh set of eyes often points out the glaringly obvious that you miss..

thanks 3Beem.. its good to know there's people looking, and we do value everyone's opinions and ideas. As soon as we're able, we'll release a tarball of the site plus sqldumps for you all to use and play with.
We kinda set ourselves a goal of a 70% working site by the start of April, enough to go live with at any rate, so any help, hints, points in the right direction, they are all welcome to us at the moment.. lol

Mission Update: Captains Log - Stardate: HELP!!!
Oki.. just an update on the project so far, and needless to say, its getting reeeeealy bad.
The project started with a simple idea and what we thought would be a simple task.. Its not until you start writing stuff and suddenly remember all the multiple small things that you really do need to code as well, like text editors, smiliey capture, link capture, uploads, GD2 interface, etc etc etc...
So, currently the timeline has managed to gain an extra month alone until the basic functionality of the site is there, and we'll probably be looking at about another 4 months until the backend is anywhere near functioning!
I started this project with just two people, and now it seems that we will need alot more to even get it live. If you like the look of what we have mocked up, and can code CI well, and have time spare to offer us for free, we would be ever so grateful of ANY time and help we can get. Its an ambitious project, with not enough people working on it, and we're desperate for help..
