Hello,

I am a newbie at CI and I am trying to develop my first CMS with login for the admin page of my project, is there any tutorials or guides you can let me know since I am a bit stuck or even where on the documentation I should be seeing to get ideas on it.

Any recommendation will be appreciatte since I really want to learn this Framework, I really like the structure of it.

Thanks again!

nettuts+ buddy....that is a Bible for CI. I was in the same situation as you last December. I could finish my CMS recently but i am havnig some road blocks and some issues which didnt appear when i developed it in my machine. Well to answer your question. Consider your time with CI as a date (just an example alright!!) and know more about it....experiment and you'll get to know more. Sure you'll make mistakes.....u know whats the fun part? you learn from them! Wink Cheers!

Hey Brian,

Thanks for the help, I know exactly what you mean it is really hard at the beginning, so, is this the tutorial you mean >> http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/php/codeigniter-from-scratch-day-1/ it says that it teaches to build a CMS and front end and login for admin right? That is what I am looking for, I want to build a model agency website like this, just looks awesome even this one is an escort site Big Grin But, for any model agency is just great!!

I also find this tutorial, which one you recommend me to start with and which one covers my needs, remember I want to build a escort or model agency website with a CMS with admin login and a front end like the one I show you on previous link.

And I also find this CMS that it seems that is done already http://www.getfuelcms.com/ but, personally I want to learn to build my own, I never like the easy path Big Grin!!

Also, I had found this tutorial is a paid one, even that is cheap, I am not sure is it worth it >> https://tutsplus.com/course/build-a-cms-in-codeigniter/

Thanks for the help man, not only CI its awesome its support is even better, you guys help a lot, thanks!!

That tutorial is out-dated, but it should get you on the right track, for sure. Also, check out my signature. Again, most links are now outdated, but things haven't changed a great deal since.

Hey TheFuzzyone,

thanks for the reply once again, as I mentioned on previous posts on the forum this Tutorial >> http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/php/codeigniter-from-scratch-day-1/ is outdated as we mentioned, but, this one from the premium pack >> https://tutsplus.com/course/build-a-cms-in-codeigniter/ is it outdated too? Please confirm, since it covers all the basics I am interested to cover that is to create a dinamic website from scratch with admin panel cms with login, because on the user guide its great for sintax but, as a tutorial does not help too much, at least to me. I really want to start with something that I will use daily basis and give me a good overall knowledge in this frameword, that is a login, admin panel with CRUD functions and a front end. What I can use as a tutorial for it if that one is outdated?

Is there a list of the main changes made on CI 1.xx to 2.xx like the new names on Controllers, libraries that are not use no more and change to whatever, etc. so, maybe if I know the major changes then I can use this outdated books or tutorials to guide me, since you said that is not much that change and they cover most the things I need.

Thanks again bro!!

Hey Thefuzzyone,

I just check and this paid one it seems to be on CI 2.1.2 so, that is perfect right?? You can see it on this video, that shows how to install CI and you see him downloading that version >> https://tutsplus.com/lesson/installing-and-configuring-codeigniter/ at the 25 seconds of the video.

Please confirm, since its a paid tutorial even that is cheap, I want to be sure before buying it.

Thanks

I suggested you check out the old tutorials, and nothing has changed. I still recommend you do. All that's really changed in CodeIgniter is that there's been some new features added, some new libraries, and some enhancements made. You should easily be able to apply that old tutorial to the new version of CodeIgniter.

I would say watch the tutorials anyway, and get back to us if you get stuck.

That paid-for tutorial you came across also looks good, and is for CI 2+, but please don't expect to watch them and become and master at PHP and CodeIgniter. That all comes from experience, which takes time.

Hello,

Thefuzzyone, first of all thanks for your help, I really appreciate it!!! I just bought the tutorial because its a really cheap membership and is worth it, at least for me is what I wanted to start doing since they have also another tutorial called "Codeigniter Essentials" that covers all basic things so, it looks good! I am not an awesome developer in PHP but, I am an intermediate level developer in PHP, so, I think with this 2 tutorials in basic and building a website with admin login and CMS. it is what I need to put my hands on CI, and as you said, I agree I don't expect to be a Master Jedi in CI with this tutorials, but, I want to start understanding how it works that is my major goal, so, I can take bigger steps later.

Here is the essentials CI course that I am taking first so, you can take a look and give me your opinion >> https://tutsplus.com/course/codeigniter-essentials/

Any advice you can give me, since I am starting my quest on CI :-) ??
