Hi,
we have to update our server to php 5.5.25.
Could that be a problem for an older CI application version ci 2.1.0?

The changelog for 2.2.4 should give you most of the information about bug fixes for compatibility with newer versions of PHP. Of course, everything else on that list should be reason enough to upgrade to 2.2.4 as soon as possible, if not as a first step towards upgrading to 3.0.1.
