When CodeIgniter 4 is released, how long will CodeIgniter 3 be supported with bug fixes and security patches for?

It would be good to know so when discussing maintenance and support with clients i could tell them how long they can stay on the current v3.x release before support & patches are no longer provided. This way we could plan out a schedule for migrating existing applications to the latest version before v3.x support ended.

We have discussed this within the CodeIgniter council. Nothing is written in stone, but we expect at least one year of maintenance for CodeIgniter 3, and one year of security fixes beyond that, once CodeIgniter 4.0.0 launches. These are not promises, only reasonable expectations.

Thank you jlp, an estimate is better then no answer at all, 2 years for security fixes seems reasonable.
