Domain Hosting issues with Media Temple - El Forum - 06-19-2008 [eluser]jbads[/eluser] Several days ago I signed up for the mediatemple.com grid service. I understood before I signed up that I couldn't register a .co.nz domain with them upon sign up. This didn't seem un-natural to me, so I registered a .com domain with them that I will be using for a drumming website I'm developing. The .co.nz domain, I registered with a New Zealand company, as this domain needed to be .co.nz to reflect the local nature of the website that the domain and hosting is for. As I understood it, mediatemple claim they could host up to 1000 domains on my grid service plan. The didn't specify (or at least make it clear) that they would not be able to host a .co.nz domain. Their support service told me I should set up an htaccess file to redirtect my old domain to a folder of my mediatemple account. Does this seem strange to you? Or is just me being pissed off for no reason? Would using an htaccess file to redirect the website cause any conflict with any other systems I need, ie. mod_rewrite and htaccess files in codeigniter to remove index.php etc? or any part of my codeigniter website? How about captchas, google analytics etc etc.?? The .co.nz website was the primary reason for purchasing the hosting plan. If you could run your own DNS, you'd not have this problem. Domain Hosting issues with Media Temple - El Forum - 06-19-2008 [eluser]jbads[/eluser] I dont understand why I cant setup a subdomain and point my dns to ns1.mediatemple.com and ns2.mediatemple.com. Which their user manual seems to explain how to do, but I tried it and it didn't seem to work. I've emailed their support asking how this was done and the response I got was to use the .htaccess method.... Will this affect my CI application in anyway if I have to use this? Domain Hosting issues with Media Temple - El Forum - 06-20-2008 [eluser]dare[/eluser] Hello, Please use the appropriate board to discuss your problems or share your thoughts. For instance, i think these kind of questions should post in The Lounge Domain Hosting issues with Media Temple - El Forum - 06-20-2008 [eluser]meigwilym[/eluser] You should be able to do it. I've got .co.uk domains pointing to a MT grid server with no problems. Follow these steps. Specifically, it's step 2 part 4 you need to complete. If your DNS are set to MT's nameservers you should be OK. Regards, Mei Domain Hosting issues with Media Temple - El Forum - 06-22-2008 [eluser]jbads[/eluser] Hi thanks for your help. Dare: I posted it in here because I am questioning whether anyone could see any reason for my codeigniter application to not work if I use an .htaccess to redirect. Seemed more appropriate to post in here than the lounge which is for general discussion |
