CodeIgniter 3 Will be Released Under the MIT License

BCIT is in the academic world, and it makes most sense to be as open and permissive as possible, hence the decision to use the MIT open source license moving forward.

EllisLab planned to release CodeIgniter 3 under the Open Software License 3 (OSL3).
This was a good choice for them, recognizing and protecting their investment in CodeIgniter.
We appreciate their vision, and will continue to give them credit, as we move forward with the CodeIgniter framework.

The project repository will be updated over the next while, to reflect the licensing.
All needed changes will be in place before CodeIgniter 3 launches.
We don't have a firm date for the release, but we are working diligently to remove the remaining obstacles and issues.

In the long term, we see MIT licensing of CodeIgniter leading to broader consideration and adoption of the framework, and a revitalised developer involvement Smile

Wise decision. Another step in the right direction.
The licensing issue has deterred a lot of companies and developers away from CI.

GREAT, Thank you for the very quick action and a good choice on license.
I, my clients, and their lawyers can work with this now.

Remember: Obfuscation is a bad thing.
Clarity is desirable over Brevity every time.

I'm happy to see that codeigniter v3 will be using the MIT licence and hopfully Codeigniter v4 will follow the same path!

This was one of my biggest complaints with codeigniter.

Really amazing that saner heads have prevailed!
