Bulk AJAX update

my application uses a lot of input areas (textboxes etc...) and loads all the data via Jquery Ajax. currently my php script just returns XML with nodes corresponding to the input area IDs and i just parse that XML and use it to update the input areas. works OK but it take a bit of work and doesn't look too good. is there another way of doing bulk updates to forms using Ajax?
