Polish marks in database

Hi i try put polish marks in db but i have problem.
I set via phpmyadmin coding utf8_polish_ci, and i can put them in phpmyadmin no problem and they look ok in phpmyadmin but on web site i have ąąąą.
in CI config file i have setup like that:

$db['default']['char_set'] = "utf8";
$db['default']['dbcollat'] = "utf8_polish_ci";

What should i change to set it right ??
