A fix was committed to the develop branch, which will be the next major release of CI, 3.0. I don't know why it wasn't chosen to be committed as a bug fix to 2.1.x also, you could create an issue and ask if you want. Otherwise, you can always try the new versions from the develop branch in your application for the time being.
