CI 1.6 and layouts

I'm newbie in CI and have a headache when read forum about dynamic partials of layout in CI. What it is exactly in new 1.6 version, what is best practise now, could somebody explain me? It is a lot of old solutions in this forum bud I don't know if these are actual. When I have dynamically generated head, menu, main_content and footer, I know I can use multiple view. But where can I place controllers? In one global controller? I can't understand it. Can somebody explain it clearly?
