Hi, I currently have a site hosted by Dreamhost who want $120 for an annual renewal. This seems a bit steep - can anyone reccommend a good alternative?

This is something I cannot stress enough, good hosting is worth its weight in gold. In my experience 'you get what you pay for' cannot be any more accurate when it comes to web hosting. There's only two international hosts that I would use so far (and I've tested quite a few):

http://slicehost — briliant.
http://mediatemple.net — Despite some bad press at the moment their dedicated virtual (dv) is pretty damn good, just avoid the grid service.

For a VPS I can reccomend http://bodhost.com/ as they are at the end of the phone 24/7 and have solved nearly every issue I had; Subversion still wont play nice with Apache there, but that's what GitHub is for.

For a cheap little hosting package with good support (from me) check out Sever of DOOM!. Site is not finished as I got distracted by PyroCMS, but the server runs well and can host you for small change.

Cosign with my 1 dedicated server, 1 reseller account, and several regular hosting accounts for customers. Fast network too. Runs off The Planet.

I've been using Site5 for over a year now it's pretty good and cheap. But I'm considering switching to Webfaction, I've heard really good things about them.

I use Streamline.net. Bulk account (up to 10 domains) is £80 per year. Linux or Windows, MySQL with phpmyadmin or MSSQL, cp, ftp, mail, . unlimited emails, unlimited MySQL, Great customer service, most email support tickets are answered within 30 mins, even outside core hours. good uptime.
