Plugins

Hi guys,

I just wanted to ask what is the best practice for extending your CMS with plugins. The only example I am familiar with is wordpress's plugins, so I want a way to register the plugin, create your own table in the database and then use this in a custom view and controller.

Is there any work that has already been done? What is the best way to do this in codeigniter, can I use hooks?

Any advice welcome.
