You should base your paths against these.

// The name of THIS file (index.php)
SELF

// Path to the system directory
BASEPATH

// Path to the front controller (index.php) directory
FCPATH

// Name of the "system" directory
SYSDIR

// Path to the "application" directory
APPPATH

// Path to the "views" directory
VIEWPATH
