Help needed for CI v3
#11

Guys, enthusiasm is good, but what are you going to do, generally? There are pending PRs, there are open issues to be reviewed, but is there a bigger picture than that?

Yes I've been reading through some of the issues and it turns out most are help needed and not bugs. Others too would want a feature that will help them with a current problem but the documentation specifically states what CI supports. And there are other issues that should be closed by now but they are still left open.

I got curious to know whether it was CI3 was going to be halted so I sent this issue:

Looking at what we have now, that is CI3, I think it is stable enough and so we should be thinking of improving it with the new way of PHP 7 upwards (This I think the senior members can decide). Then finally journey it into CI4.

Our intent has always been to keep version 3 going for a while, but that takes people and time. narf has relentlessly maintained the project for around 6 years, at least a couple of them almost by himself. Huge props to him. Over the last year or so his available time seems to have diminished. I don't know if it's pandemic-related or not, but he hasn't been active in the repo for a while now.

I'm looking for a couple of volunteers to step in and help keep CI3 alive, by reviewing pull requests, addressing issues, and helping write code where needed.

Any one want to help out? We could really use the help there.

I'm a bit late to the party, but i'd like to help out with CI3 is possible. Let me know if you still want an extra hand.

A bit too late for me to see this, but I am also interested into helping to maintain the CI3 project. Big Grin

I'm gxgpet on github.

Edit: Btw, we must also go through a process of changing stuff that's not BC-compatible for PHP 8.

if it helps I would be willing to sponsor some development of the project to maintain it. Not a huge amount but some money. If anyone is interested please reach out.
