Passing data between models

Say for instance you have to connect to two or three data sources, such as a DB2 space, LDAP server and an Oracle server, and you need to pass data from one model to the other. Obviously one could just simply pass the data via the controller, but certain aspects of it make it a bit redundant. Does it fit into the MVC framework to use a CI library as a bridge between the controller and the multiple models?
