you can't compare them though, codeigniter is designed to work with both PHP4 and PHP5, where as this yiiframework is designed to only work with PHP5.

the creator of this framework would have more luck comparing Yii Framework with KohanaPHP which is an off shoot of codeigniter designed solely for PHP5 and above and it too is faster than codeigniter.

the developer of the framework is also benchmarking against CI 1.6.3 instead of the new CI 1.7

CI is not a sole creator, it is a creator of a bunch of different developers. I think initially it was like 2 or 3 developers though.
