latin char corrupt session flashdata

I just found that the session database data is currupted when using flashdata to store messages containing some latin special char like: 'é' and 'à'.

Is this normal?

My session are stored in the database using CI native library.

I quick fixed it using PHP function htmlentities but this does not seem normal.
