Reestablish DB connection after Fork

I'm building a cli script that runs off of the same core as my CI powered site. I autoload the database which works fine for the rest of the site. My problem is that when I fork a process from the cli script, the database works for the first forking but not subsequent. This is to be expected. My question is, how do I reestablish the db connection? Simply loading the db again doesn't work.

Has anyone done this? Any recommendations?
