The <q> tag in the Typography helper

I have not yet upgraded to 7.1, but I read the change log, which says about the Typography helper:

Added <big>, <small>, <q>, and <tt> to the Typography parser's inline elements.

However, according to W3 (http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_q.asp), the <q> tag is not supported on IE7 and lower. I have not tested this, so I am wondering what the results are...

This is not that big of a deal, but I am curious what was the motivation for using a tag that is not supported by IE. (I am all for moving away from IE, but generally expect tools such as codeigniter to support things like this so that I don't have to worry about them).

Also I am putting this post here in case anybody has trouble with their quoted text after the upgrade - so now you know why.
