[Solved] Exposing controller variables

I'm trying to have a layout.php as view having an include($content); inside in it and tried to expose $this->content = 'some/file.php'; in the Controller. However, it gives me an undefined error for content. I know I'm missing something but don't know what. Help? Is there any good reference for having a having layout for CI? I'm still starting so bear with me. Thanks a lot!

CI version is 1.7.1

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking, but if you mean templating, this thread shows what I do.

Thank you. I was wondering of including a page but this is better, returning a string and feed it to the layout. Thanks again!
