Firebird drivers for CI 1.7
#1

[eluser]HDuqueC[/eluser]
Hi,

I need my application to work against a Firebird 1.5 database. I searched CI Forum and found the Jeffrey Bradley drivers for Firebird/Interbase, but unfortunately this driver wroks olny with CI v.1.5 (with this version it works fine).

Is there or is someone working in updating the Firebird/Interbase driver for CI 1.7?
Should be the best approach to implement a ODBC connection?

Thank you for your comments.

Nando.

Hi,
I am going to try to re-create the Firebird drivers this weekend. I will let you know when I get a working version. My goal is to have it work with CodeIgniter 1.7.1, Firebird 2.1.1, and PHP 5.2. I will post back when I get something working. I do not have Firebird 1.5 installed anywhere here, I will try to not make use of anything that is particular to 2.1

Well Jeff, I hope you get a working driver for FireBird, i had try to do my best but i can not do it, may be because I'm very, very new in PHP. I have not start working with CI because i can not connect to FireBird. Good luck Jeff, and thanks in advanced

Jeffrey

Thank you for posting with good news. Unfortunately I'm quite new in PHP but I'll be very glad to help you testing the new drivers. I know Firebird 2.1 super seeds 1.5 but my challenge is with 1.5.

I wish that knowledge be with you.

I've never heard of Firebird before. However, is it big enough and important enough to suggest to the EllisLab teams that they add Firebird drivers to the core?

Hi. Firebird was borned from Borland's Interbase 6.0. It is a very strong RDBMS engine, easy administration, and what I like most, runs as well in Windows and Linux. In Latin America mostly in Brazil there are so many applications running with Firebird.

Please take a look at http://www.firebirdnews.org/docs/fb2min.html

Firebird has been around (by different names) since the mid 80's (see http://www.firebirdsql.org/index.php?op=...=beginning for more info). I have personally used it since the late 90's. It has been used to replace Oracle in some shops and there is a branch from Firebird (Fyracle - http://www.janus-software.com/fb_fyracle.html) that claims to be able to replace an Oracle DB including Stored Procs and Triggers with minimal to no changes in code. I do not know why it doesn't get more press than Postgre and MySQL.

Hi,

Today I read an article (Why so few developers are using Firebird SQL? (not so true…) http://www.firebirdnews.org/ ) among others...
