Maybe we should have a message on the new thread page encouraging the user to search before they post...
Or, have something similar to digg, which identifies similar stories, and asks you to confirm its unique

Would be nice, however I still don't see what's wrong with searching for it. It should take less time to search for it than to post a topic and wait for people to reply.
