Active Record Join Update

What is the best way to do an update if I have joined table? I just started learning about joins and am having a hard time getting my head around it. If I have a form for instance, where some data would go in one table and some in another table based on the same id how would I do that easily?

From your requirement it's clear you need to build two sql statements and run them separately to update two different tables.
