what is BPO?

hi dear,
i just need a little help from you all. please tell me what is BPO? on internet i found it "Business Process Outsourcing".. so clear it and also i have been offere a job from a software company in their bpo industry. so i have no idea , I m doing as web developer in a company so what you think?wether i should switc over ? i heared Bpo is risky industry. is it safe job for me?
