User Account plugin ?

I'm looking for a user account plug in. I can't seem to find a good quality (simple) solution.
Does anyone have one that works well ???

What's the nature of the account? Are you just looking for an authentication system?

yes, like a user account system... I have a pretty simple site and until now it's just been me posting stuff. I'd like to be able to register users and allow logins. Set cookies for persistence and have a level of security for attacks and security for different levels of users.
