CodeIgniter install generates blank page.

I have a CodeIgniter application which is running fine on a local machine but when I upload it to a remote shared hosting platform the root of the site generates a blank page. Using LiveHTTPHeaders for Firefox I have been able to determine that a 500 server error is being returned but I have no idea what the error may be. I have changed settings for the base url and database config. Is there anything else in the settings that would cause this?

Check that mod_rewrite is enabled on your server. You might also want to try the different uri_protocol settings.
