Send emails at set times

Hi, just wondering if it is possible to, using codeigniter and mysql or postresql, set a method to be executed at a set time that could be days or months away from the current date. For example, the method could send out an email at a specific date?

I think you are looking for a cron job - cron being a feature of linux. Its the only reliable way I'm aware of to ensure something happens at X day or time.
