I have hosted my site in a server. There is a module to send emails but it doesn't work. The same module is working in one of my friend hosted in a different server. Do I have to change any configurations in the server to send emails.

check the sendmail_path in your server's php.ini file under [mail function]
make sure sendmail is up and running else google how setup sendmail for your environment.
