.htaccess rewriting help

Hi Everyone.

I am a newbie to code-igniter, please help me out with .htaccess url rewriting,

I have developed an application with url as http://localhost/mydomain

which allows users to register themselves and create a page which displays as if it is another website, making the user as its administrator, such as the below given url.

http://localhost/mydomain/user1

I don't know how to do this since, for executing any function in CI I am navigating via the index.php file only to any controller or function.

Please help me how to redirect the user1 such that internally it goes to one of the controllers say http://localhost/mydomain/index.php/ownerofpage and display the link in the browser as http://localhost/mydomain/user1,

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
