Email to SMS service

Hey there,

I have been playing around with a service provided by 24X (http://www.24x.com), whereby you can send an email and get a text message back.

This has been useful for a new site I am working on where prices for particular brands of motorcycles cannot be listed, so instead a user fills in a form with their mobile number and they receive a text message back with the price.

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in me developing an SMS library based on the 24X service?

Thanks,
Neil

Most (if not all) carriers provide email addresses which can be used to deliver SMS messages.

I guess this one is pretty handy if you know the carrier, presumably from a select list in a form. The 24X service also shows a record of all of the messages sent.

Personally, I would rather have a dropdown to have users select their mobile carrier and write my own logging function than pay for an unnecessary service...

The trouble is that different carriers have different ways of using a service like that. For example, with Orange (UK) you have to have a user account in order to receive an email as an SMS.

Similarly, with O2 (UK) you apparently have to switch the service on first before you can start receiving such messages.

So this way would guarantee the message being sent. But yes, the disadvantage is that you have to pay for the service. £65 for 1,0000 credits.
