accented letters in the db

Hello everyone, how do I save the accented letters in the db with CodeIgniter ...

if I use a form and I type a word with the accent, the letter emphasis is not saved in the db!

This previous forum topic might be of use (check the last few posts in the topic) Basically, I believe it comes down to making sure you are using the right character set in your database/php files. Not something I've personally had to deal with before though, so I'm not sure if I can give you specific advice.
