I'm thinking about enabling GET variables to add search functionality to an existing codeigniter app. Does any know of any potential downfalls to this?

You have to sanitise and keep a close watch on what you do with whatever you get via $_GET (no pun intended). You might have to play around with your config settings and .htaccess to get it working correctly depending on your system setup.
