Learn CI 1.7 or wait for CI 2.0?

I have been learning some CI 1.7.2, but I wonder if it's worth my while, since CI 2.0 is coming out.

I assume that 2.0 will change everything. In a way, that is not a good thing for me. One of the things I really like about CI is all the documentation, tutorials, and ready-made apps.

But, I guess, PHP4 is getting awfully old, and we need to move forward.

Not all things will change, most things will be pretty much the same i guess.

Actually, not alot of things will change.
Learn 1.7.2 and you'll be pretty safe.

Thanks for fast replies. Codeigniter is known for great documentation. Hopefully, there will be documentation on making the transition.

Also, check out this article:

You can download the beta at Bitbucket.
It's pretty stable and i've been using it for some projects already...

Good luck!

As others have noted, the changes are modest. 2.0 is ready to start using now. EllisLabs' products are already running on it. If you're just getting started with CodeIgniter, I'd suggest you have a look at 2.0. THe download includes slightly updated documentation including a good changelog.

I use CI 2.0 for everything and these days it's stable enough. Most bugs found in 1.7.2 recently are being submitted as issues or patches for 2.0 so in some ways it may actually be more stable.

That said, if you get stuck, don't blame us. Either way the code is pretty similar.
