Development, Quality and Production environments. How to?

Hi,

I have an CI website in a shared webhosting. I need to setup an Development and Quality environments.

I was thinking in configure the 3 environments in this way:

My website is: http://www.myweb.com

I will create http://dev.myweb.com and http://qua.myweb.com and protect them with some authentication.

Now, what is the best way of edit the files on http://dev.myweb.com and http://qua.myweb.com from my computer? I have SSH access and FTP access to the server.

There are any IDE that can connect by SSH to edit files on the server directly from my computer? Or the only way of doing this is to transfer by FTP?
