Is CI still being activily developed

I have been watching this project with interest over the last year. I tested it out but found I needed something more robust and subsequently switched to and currently use Symfony. However, I come by here every few months so to check on the progress --as I like the philosophy behind this project and want to use it after it matures a little more.

During my drop in visits I've noticed that there has been no major releases in nearly a year.

Are major release planned or is the plan to simply maintain the code as is?

Thanks For you Time

I believe that the last major release was about 10 months ago with four maintenance releases since then, plus another about to be released (v1.5.5). The framework libraries are based on EllisLabs' ExpressionEngine, a commercial product, so I guess you could refer to CodeIgniter as a 'hand-me-down framework' in the sense that ExpressionEngine development has higher priority and any new CI code trickles down from ExpressionEngine. Aside from this, there is no roadmap and the author rarely posts anymore.

However, there are a lot of developers using it, mainly because it is easy to use, very extensible and adaptable to numerous needs and wants. I would not call it inactive, but new innovation from the core team is pretty much stagnant or close to it. Most of the recent innovative development now comes from the user community. A large proportion of the CI power users of the past year have either jumped ship for the Kohana fork, are working on other forks, or have migrated to other frameworks.

I believe there were plans to use CodeIgniter as the core for the ExpressionEngine but i don't know what has decided.
This change would benefit CodeIgniters release interval.

Maybe the press they are getting recently can be a stimulant to make an effort to put out a major release based on community feedback (pray in silence Smile ).

Absolutely yes it is still actively developed. Goodness, feels like I'm squashing a new bug every other day Wink

Please read http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/60746/, which was posted just a little while ago.
