is it possible the create a captcha without the use of DB?

all the tutorials show the use of a db, with captcha...is it possible to do a "temporary" one with out a database?

Hi, I made one, but is far from good, still needs to be improved, using the GD library and creates a temporary image that is removed after the authentication is performed. I'll post as soon as perfect a little.
