show error message without page change

Hello im working on a new site and i want to show a error message if the username and password is wrong, but i only want the message to show up (with some jquery), but it should not change the page,

if the press the "login" bottom and then it should show the error, but it change to the controller name.


what can i do to work this out ?

Some code would be usefull

But generally, as you said - use jquery (ajax, post... whatever) to send data to the controller and read output as neccessary...
