protect a folder with a password

Hello,

I need to manage a "private area" with codeigniter
Visitors with a (fixed) password can access this area and download files inside a folder
The server is windows with iis and I cannot use .htaccess file
any idea how can I manage this private area?

Hi Tud,

I don't use Window but I think the solution is to save the files on your database.
I think you can just right click on the directory in Explorer and change the permissions. Your user will get a login screen when trying to access the folder, just give them the user and password.

thanks but I have 2 problems:
- the server is a windows shared server, customer bought this hosting package years ago. For example it has php 4....
- I don't have a db

any other idea?

Do as we said, set a username and password on your folder, I think you'll do that on IIS Explorer

When a user try to access it, a window will popup asking for username and password.

The problem is I cannot access/configure IIS because it's on a shared server provider.
