No CI doesn't have a viewstate, the closest thing i can think of is using a session variable.

There is the rapyd components library which as a few controls.

You can do it with a session variable but the CI validation also offers a possibility to fill the input fields.

if we have a validation text on the field then manually assigning the field; our required value, becomes messy.

I also this not find any good examples to facilitate javascript in CI..
