How to get referer page from external page (https)

Hi there.

Is there any way to get the referrer page of a visitor coming from another website to mine, in case the other site uses ssl such as https://www.facebook.com/l.php?......

Using $_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER'] all i get is an empty string.

Any help would be appreciated.
