default controller not working?

I have my default controller set as normal to 'welcome'... I then added a new public function in there named add_new

Now with my browser if i visit http://www.domain.com/add_new/ i get a 404 error, but if I go to http://www.domain.com/welcome/add_new it works...

Any idea why, if my default controller is set to welcome that if i go to add_new won't read it from the welcome controller?
