Proportional image resizing problem

First of all, my English is not good and I use the Google translator to write this message.

I describe my problem:

Currently I have an image of 525 x 180 px (http://www.freeimagehosting.net/newuploads/de770.gif) but my style sheet is designed to display images of 190 x 190 px

To solve this problem using the library image_lib. The result of using the library is this:
http://www.freeimagehosting.net/newuploads/0f454.gif (190 x 65 px).

When I show the picture on my site this happens: http://www.freeimagehosting.net/newuploads/361ea.gif (I adjust the size of the image width = 190 and height 0 190)

What I would like to happen is this: http://www.freeimagehosting.net/newuploads/2229b.gif (height=190 and width=190 with the reduced image in)

How could i solve this with any image and any measure?
