Code igniter - deeper nesting of controllers?

Is there any reason why the nesting of controllers is only one folder deep?

Is this a design principle, or is recursive searching of the controllers simply not been implemented *yet*?

I.e if I was to patch code igniter to allow this would it be accepted?
