Database: Migration

Hi there

I'm not very familiar with the terms of migration as used in CI. Within the following doc I have noted that there are two methods that are being used: http://ellislab.com/codeigniter/user-gui...ation.html

public function up() AND public function down()

Could anybody please inform me as to what the function of these two methods are and how they operate?

And does the file naming convention matter? starting with 001_ or can it start with anything?
